Tonight the Spectrum will host the last professional basketball game in its storied history. The Spectrum is scheduled to be knocked down at the end of September. When it falls, it will bring with it the visual evidence of many of the city of Philadelphia’s greatest sports moments. It was the site of the Flyers first Stanley Cup victory and went on to host nine additional NHL and NBA championship series’ during a span of almost 30 years. It hosted countless NCAA tournament games including 2 Final Fours. On a more personnel note it was the location of the first NHL and NBA games that I attended. It was the epicenter of the Philadelphia sports success during the late 1970s and early 1980s. It will surely be missed by the sports community in this town and all who learned to love the history that took place there over the years.
